Begets Government of Wolves
By Loren Adams, 22 November 2009
Not even the most fevered imagination could have concocted
some of the things we've seen since Bush and his cronies stole the 2000
election. Pandora's Box was pried wide-open – releasing all sorts of vile
curses on the U.S. for which we'll be enduring for at least a generation. Just
think: There would have been no 9/11, no Afghan War, no Iraq War, no Katrina botched
recovery, no historic constitutional assault, no environmental denial, no
merging of church-state, no $2 trillion tax-cut for the very wealthy, no
economic depression – if only the duly elected would have served instead
of the treasonous, crooked fake from Texas along with his right-fringe
ideologues.
Going beyond all this – How'd the unelected fool
arrive, and how can it be prevented from happening again?
The simple answer is: SHEEP. America was overtaken by the
gullible who in turn delivered us unquestionably to wolves, and the only way to
prevent it from reoccurring is to smarten up the sheep – if that’s at all
possible. For, sheep are prone to follow any leader dressed appropriately but
unable to distinguish between a genuinely benevolent shepherd from wolves in sheep’s
clothing.
"A nation of sheep will beget a government of
wolves." — Edward R.
Murrow
Unfortunately, no one will be able to extricate sheepish America
from its deeply engrained, traditional composition of religiosity, the
herd-mentality of superstition-acceptance. Sheep are with us forever. So, the
solution is not slaughter, but smarter sheep. We must work with what we have to
get where we must go to survive.
Now, converting the current culture war to a more palatable
form [beneficial to society and future generations] requires progressives to address
religious issues by citing the more liberal Jesus and leading millions of
American sheep into a new fold, renouncing the radical right with its
hatemongering, racial overtones incompatible with true Christian virtue. Yes, a
new American Reformation [of a liberal vein] must be realized for the U.S. to
prevent a level of schism – both political and religious – that
would lead to civil unrest – assassinations and history-changing, violent
events aside.
Many liberals brush off such proposals because the concept
fails to agree with their secular view of the world. However, if the momentum
in the direction of reform is not taken, the radical right will foment
revolution. Mere politics or popular comedic ridicule from celebrities will not
do.
The sheep dominate the landscape whether we like it or not.
Removing the sheep is out of the question, so educating the sheep is the only
viable alternative. A fresh religious movement must be born, founded on the
original doctrines of Christ from the Sermon on the Mount – core
principles that have been under attack by the radical right in recent years.
At this time in our history, American Judaism is not
radicalized. American Christian fundamentalism is. (That’s why the Jewish
religion is not mentioned in this piece.) Like Killer Bees swarming up from
Latin America, American fundamentalism must be injected with a milder form in
order to win the culture war waged in the United States.
It's nobody's fault but our own that we have allowed this
nation to arrive at such a condition. Remember, Edward R. Murrow’s words:
"A nation of sheep begets a government of wolves." We opened the door
to these wolves, so we shouldn't be surprised if we get mauled. Sheep have a
tendency to not pay attention, but they don’t have to be that way. It only
takes good leadership to lead them back into the paths of righteousness.
The only solution is not to damn, dismiss, or disparage the
sheep, but to nurture and train them.
